Never send your password, an Apple or Google authorization code, a full private source document, or another person’s sensitive information.
Include only what helps reproduce the issue: app version and build from Record → Settings, your device model, your iOS or Android version, the challenge title or ID if relevant, what you expected, what happened, and the approximate time. A screenshot is useful when it does not expose private material.
Challenges and invitation codes
Where do challenges live?
Public challenges live in Discover. Your current challenge and today’s state live in Today. Approved creator tools live in Create, and reading history plus settings live in Record. The four tabs are the same on iPhone and Android.
How do I join with a code?
Open the join-by-code action from Today or Discover, then paste or type the six-character code. Readify accepts a full invitation message when it contains one unambiguous Readify code. Review the challenge details and the app-blocking consequence before the final Join action.
Why is my code rejected?
The code may be mistyped, replaced by its creator, expired with the challenge, at capacity, or attached to a challenge that is no longer accepting readers. You also cannot join your own challenge or hold more than one active challenge. Ask the creator for a current code.
The Join button is unavailable on Android.
Android needs both app-blocking permissions before a challenge can start, because without them there is nothing to pause. Open Record → Settings → App blocking and grant Usage access and Display over other apps, then try again. On iPhone, Screen Time is optional and joining does not depend on it.
Can I leave a challenge?
Yes. Open Record → Settings and use Leave Challenge. Leaving removes your membership and its active lock schedule. A creator manages or deletes their own challenge from the creator dashboard instead.
App blocking
What does Readify lock on iPhone?
With authorization, Readify asks Apple’s Screen Time frameworks to shield the application categories Apple exposes. iOS determines exact coverage and system exceptions. Readify does not save an app list, per-app selection, or app-usage history.
What does Readify lock on Android?
While a lock is in force, Readify pauses whatever app you bring to the front—including your browser—except Readify itself, your home screen, your phone app, your default emergency app, your messaging app, the Android Settings app, the Android system interface, and your keyboard. Readify reads only which app is in front at that moment, compares it against that short list, and discards the answer. It is never stored, logged, or sent anywhere, and Readify never asks for the list of apps you have installed.
Which Android permissions does Readify need, and why?
Usage access tells Readify which app is in front. Display over other apps is how the reading screen comes back over a paused app. Both are granted by you in Android Settings and can be revoked there. Optional extras: notifications, so Android can show the running badge; exact alarms, so the lock lands on the minute rather than up to an hour late. Readify never asks Android to exempt itself from battery optimisation—if you want that, you grant it yourself in Android’s battery settings.
Why is there a permanent Readify notification on Android?
Android requires a visible notification for any service that keeps running while you are in other apps. It reads “Apps are paused — Finish today’s reading in Readify to open them,” it is low priority, and it disappears when the lock ends. It is the only notification Readify sends; there are no reminders and no marketing pushes.
Why does Readify appear next to my alarms on Android?
When you allow exact alarms, Readify schedules the lock as a system alarm so Android will not delay it. Android publishes the next such alarm to the status bar and lock screen, so your lock time can appear beside your own alarm. It does not replace or cancel your alarm, and it never rings.
Can I use Readify without app blocking?
On iPhone, yes—you can decline Screen Time authorization, but Readify cannot enforce read-to-unlock without it and will fail open. On Android you can decline both permissions and look around the app, but you cannot join a challenge until you turn them on, because there would be nothing for Readify to pause. To enable it later: iPhone, Record → Settings → Screen Time Access; Android, Record → Settings → App blocking.
How do I stop app blocking?
Leave the challenge in Record → Settings—that ends its lock schedule. To stop it at the system level: on iPhone, disable Readify’s Screen Time authorization in iOS Settings; on Android, open Settings → Apps → Special app access → Usage access (or Display over other apps) and switch Readify off. Readify is never blocked from reaching the Android Settings app, so that route always works while a lock is up.
Apps are still locked after a confirmed outcome. What should I do?
Return to Readify and let Today refresh. Confirm network access, then check Record → Settings—Screen Time Access on iPhone, App blocking on Android. If the lock still does not clear, use the system-level fallback above, then send support the app version, your iOS or Android version, the challenge ID, and the approximate time.
Why did Readify unlock instead of showing a reading?
Readify deliberately fails open when its authorization, a fresh challenge policy, or today’s protected content is unavailable. That safety behavior does not automatically award XP, streak, completion, or leaderboard credit.
Daily reading outcomes
What is the difference between “Apps unlocked” and “Today counted”?
They answer different questions. Apps unlocked is the state of the lock on your device. Today counted means the server awarded challenge completion, XP, streak, and leaderboard progress. A safety or mercy unlock can open apps without counting the day.
What happens after two incorrect short-answer recalls?
For a short-answer recall, the server can confirm a mercy settlement after the second miss and release the shield. It gives no XP, streak, daily completion, or leaderboard credit. Other recall formats can continue to offer another try. This prevents one bad recall question from trapping you for the day.
Why can’t I preview future readings in Discover?
Readify deliberately keeps reading passages and recall questions inside the protected daily flow. Discover shows challenge metadata only, so previewing cannot reveal future answers or bypass the habit gate.
Reports, blocks, and unsafe content
Use a challenge’s safety actions in Discover to report it or block its creator. You can also report your active challenge from Record → Settings and manage blocked creators from Discover. Reports should identify the closest reason and include only the context needed to investigate.
Public creator submissions are also screened automatically through OpenAI before publication or correction, but automated screening is not a guarantee. In-app reports enter a private operator process; the challenged creator does not receive the reporter’s identity. If the in-app report control is unavailable, email support with the challenge title or ID and the minimum context needed to investigate.
See the Community and Content Policy for prohibited content and enforcement. If someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services; Readify support is not an emergency channel. Readify never pauses your phone app or your default emergency app.
Account access and deletion
Can I use the same account on iPhone and Android?
Yes—one account, one set of challenges, one record. Sign in with Apple is not offered on Android, so if that is how you created your account, use “Forgot password” on the sign-in screen to add a password to the same account (the reset email reaches an Apple private-relay address) and then sign in with your email and that password on Android.
Why do I need to sign in again before deletion?
Deletion is a sensitive action, and Firebase requires recent authentication. Sign in with Apple accounts may need a fresh Apple sign-in so Readify can attempt to revoke the authorization before deleting backend data. Google accounts confirm through the Android credential picker, and email-and-password accounts ask for your password.
How do I delete my account?
Open Record → Settings → Delete Account and confirm, on either platform. Read the full Data Deletion guide first if you created challenges, because deleting the account also deletes those challenges and removes them for members.
